Life Line Tariff is a cheaper energy tariff for customers whom monthly usage does not exceed 5400kWh on average over a 12 month period – i.e. 450kWh/month. Please see the comparison of tariff prices below:
If you are using less than 450kWh/per month, you should consider applying to the City of Cape Town for a conversion of a standard Domestic Tarif to a Life-Line tariff. In order to do so, you can send an email to [email protected] with the following text: “I refer to my account #123456789 MyStreetAddress and number, Town I would like to apply for the Lifeline tariff as I consume less than 5400 kWh over a 12 month period. Please advise how I should proceed.” If you are an owner of an old-fashion energy meter with disc, you should register for City of Cape Town E-services at the following site: https://eservices.capetown.gov.za/irj/portal In order to register, click on the “Register here” button on that website and fill in the form. Few days after the registration process, you will receive an email from City of Cape Town advising that the facility is available. Also your other accounts with the city should be available for viewings (water, electricity etc.) In order to check if you are registered for Life Line Tariff correctly click on “Rates and Services Accounts”, select the desired account. Under the “Contract/Rate type” the phrase “Lifeline” should appear. You can enter your own meter readings by clicking “Enter meter readings” on your left side menu. Now you are on the “poverty LifeLine” tariff, maybe it’s time to buy some batteries!!!
